Oakland Animal Hospital is one of very few general practices in our area to offer both abdominal and cardiac ultrasounds.  We have two doctors, each with over ten years of experience in performing ultrasounds.  They have also taken several advanced training courses in ultrasound.  Ultrasound can be an invaluable tool in evaluating both the abdomen and the heart and lungs.  Ultrasound has allowed us to diagnose and treat many pets with many different symptoms.   Ultrasound is also advantageous in that there is no pain associated with it, and most ultrasounds do not require sedation.   Ultrasound offer a superior way to view the internal organs, differentiate them from other soft tissue structures, and determine how best to treat a pet’s symptom or disease process.

Below are some examples of both symptoms and diseases that we have seen/treated at OAH:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Inappetence/Anorexia
  • Weight Loss
  • Fluid in the abdomen
  • Abdominal Masses
  • Disease of kidney, ureter, bladder
  • Disease of stomach, pancreas
  • Disease of liver, gallbladder, spleen
  • Straining/inability to urinate, blood in urine
  • Adrenal gland disease
  • Pyometra
  • Ovarian disease
  • Pregnancy detection
  • Heart murmurs
  • Irregular heart rhythm
  • Fluid in chest cavity
  • Masses of heart/lungs

If you have received a recommendation for your pet to have an ultrasound of its heart/lungs or abdomen, please call us, and we can discuss this diagnostic procedure with you in depth.  We are proud to be able to offer such an important diagnostic tool both to our clients, and to those that are referred to us from surrounding veterinarians for an ultrasound procedure.
